BACK TO ARTIST
Artist Statement:
For me, everything begins with the line. As Paul Klee said, “a line is a dot going for a walk,” and that simple image captures something profound: the moment intention becomes action, thought becomes visible, and a mark becomes the foundation of creation.
A line does not arise by chance but begins with the conscious decision to act, to mark, and express. This seemingly simple gesture carries with it the full weight of the artist’s psyche, her inner world of emotion, thought, desire, and perception. In this way, the line is the most fundamental expression of creativity – an outward trace of something deeply human and internal.
Colour, texture, shape, and form are not separate elements but manifestations that arise from the line’s impulse and from the first gesture everything else unfolds. Line gives rise to rhythm, boundaries, and direction and it’s within that structure that color can resonate, texture can speak, and form takes meaning, punctuated and accented sometimes by text.
I think of line as a kind of melody, setting the tone and establishing the flow, and music plays an essential role in my process. It helps me enter a rhythm that’s beyond language, unconsciously guiding my decisions, influencing my marks, and shaping the energy of the piece. There’s an intuitive unfolding where music becomes a kind of collaborator in the studio. Whether exhibiting in physical or digital spaces, my choice of music is integral. It conjures the mood in which the work was made, inviting viewers to immerse themselves and resonate with my inner world.
For me, the line’s extension into color, shape, texture, and form enables a deeper articulation of what lies beyond thought, idea or concept. It brings to the surface both my subconscious and unconscious self and creates a bridge between me and the viewer’s experience of my work, its core impulse, the very thing that makes me tick.
